Should I water my Phalaenopsis today?

Check the potting mix and drainage before deciding. This tool gives a next observation, not a calendar deadline or disease diagnosis.

For potted moth orchids in bark or sphagnum moss. English only. It does not cover water culture or semi-hydroponics. Check your actual plant first; choose an unsure answer when you cannot observe something.

If the check does not respond, use the watering guide or observation checklist.

How the check works

The American Orchid Society advises watering Phalaenopsis thoroughly, then waiting until the mix is nearly dry. The interval changes with the mix, pot, light, air movement, humidity and season. A weekly reminder is useful for checking the plant, but cannot decide watering for you.

If the mix stays soggy, roots may lack air. Limp leaves can occur when damaged roots cannot take up water, so more water is not always the answer. Check the roots and mix before changing the routine.

The result is limited to potted Phalaenopsis in bark or sphagnum moss. Unknown or other growing setups need a further check. Crown water must be removed or checked before a watering recommendation is given. It does not calculate a number of days, diagnose rot or tell you to apply a treatment. No answers are stored or sent to a server.
